Day One – Departure & Rehearsal Dinner
We left the house early to get to our 10a.m. flight on time. We had one stop in Chicago, but it was the same plane so we didn't have to get off. We arrived in Vegas around 2p.m. and got to our hotel, the Venetian, around 3:30p.m. Of course, we mentioned our wedding and were able to get an upgrade to the new tower, the Venezia. Needless to say, our room was amazing. We had a great view of the private pool area (for Venezia guests only).
So after settling into our room, we got into our bathing suits for a swim. I had heard horror stories about Vegas pools. Web site tips said you must get there early if you want a seat. When we arrived at the private pool, maybe 10 other people where there. It was beautiful (you can see pictures in Day Two). There was one giant jacuzzi, two little ones and a larger pool area. The place was full of fountains. We swam for a bit, then relaxed in the jacuzzi.
Around 7p.m. we had to meet our families at Felini's in the Stratosphere. Andy's mother had a bouquet made on the table that combined the flowers from our families different cultures. There were English Roses (though Andy's family isn't English), something Scottish, and olive branches, flown in from Italy. It was beautiful.
After dinner, Andrew's mother had a lemon Groom's cake brought to the table. You can see the picture of the silly cake topper that accompanied it. By the time we finished dessert, it was late, and Andy and I needed to get to the marriage license bureau before it closed at midnight.
First, we had to take the trolley home. Andrew's parents took a cab, and my family took the trolley. The trolley ride itself deserves it's own story including my father arguing with the bus driver and my brother making ridiculous cartoon noises that made me laugh hysterically.
Finally, we arrived back at the hotel. We changed into our sneakers, hailed a cab, and headed downtown.
There were only two other couples there that night. We had to wait about five minutes, but that gave me time to snap a few funny pictures. Once it was our turn, we handed in our papers, proofread the paperwork and paid $55. That was that and we were on our way to getting married.
By this time, it was midnight, meaning 3a.m. on the East coast. We got back to the hotel and collapsed from exhaustion. We needed a good rest for tomorrow.
